Juan David Barbosa is a partner of the International Trade Practice Area at Posse Herrera Ruiz.
Juan David has more than 15 years of experience in customs and international trade proceedings and litigations as well as in the development of import-export tax efficient strategies. Juan David has also worked in several international unfair trade practices (dumping) and safeguard investigations, as well as in the negotiation and implementation of free trade agreements.
Before joining Posse Herrera Ruiz, he worked in the Colombian Government as Deputy Director of Trade Remedies at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism where he was responsible for all antidumping and safeguard investigations. He led the negotiations of the trade remedies chapter in several free trade agreements and acted as Technical Secretary of the Committee on Customs and Tariffs matters. He also worked at several law and consulting firms in the tax, customs and international trade areas.
In free trade agreements he has experience in projects in Colombia, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Panamá. Recently he has been involved in the creation and development of off shore FTA’s.
He is the author of the book “United States Colombia Free Trade Agreement” and of several academic articles on Foreign Trade Zones, Anti-Dumping, Taxation, Transfer Pricing and Custom Valuation. Juan David has been a professor of International Trade and Customs at Universidad Javeriana and Universidad de los Andes and teaching assistant at Georgetown University.
He has a JD and a graduate degree in Taxation from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
