PATENT PROSECUTION HIGHWAY (PPH) AGREEMENT SUSCRIBED BY UK AND BRAZIL
The pilot agreement signed between the British Trademark Office and the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office has the purpose of accelerating the patent prosecution procedure from one office to another
As a result, a scope of up to 100 patent applications might go through this PPH expedited analysis in the term of one year. However, the agreement has not yet determined the limit of applications regarding the types of patent applications that are able to benefit from the program.
This agreement took place during the 10th meeting of the UK-Brazil Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) on late March and will be enforceable by the end of September. It sums up to the other five existing PPH agreements that Brazil has in force with other countries (the USA, Japan, china, the European Union and the PROSUR Latin American Countries) as an effort to reduce its backlog.
