THE COLOMBIAN PATENT OFFICE ALLOWS REQUESTING UNTIL THREE EXAMS OF PATENTABILITY
The Colombian Patent Office – The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce – allows requesting and payment up to three exams of patentability for a patent of invention or a utility model
In Colombia, an applicant must request and pay the first patentability examination for the prosecution of a patent of invention or a utility model. The timeframe for requesting this exam is of six months for patents of invention, and three months for utility models. This term is not extendable.
The additional two examinations could be requested as long as, eighteen months for patent of inventions and nine months for utility models, since the date of the publication of the patent application in Colombia have not passed.
