PISCO, DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN ACKNOWLEDGED AS NOTORIOUS WITH A DEGREE OF REPUTATION
The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property (Indecopi) issued Resolution No. 13880-2017/DSD granting a notorious character with a degree of reputation to the designation of origin PISCO upon considering that it has a level of knowledge, positioning, remembrance and quality that are comparable to other worldwide famous designations of origin and trademarks.
The recognition is the first in Latin America and has bolstered the designation of origin’s protection which was automatically extended to the other Andean Community Countries (Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador).
The notorious character declaration with a degree of reputation was granted after analyzing its sales volume, advertising, intensity and duration of use, prestige, acquired value, quality characteristics and stance before the general public.
PISCO is an iconic Peruvian alcoholic beverage that in view of this distinction is now comparable to other worldwide reputed designations of origin such as Coñac and Champagne and well-known and renowned trademarks like Coca Cola and Google.
