THE NATIONAL DIRECTION OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY (DNPI) IN URUGUAY UNDERGOES VARIOUS MODERNIZATION PROCESSES
The National Direction of Industrial Property (DNPI) in Uruguay is under a mayor modernization process that began on last October.
As part of the advances provided, Uruguay has enabled Industrial Property agents the possibility of submitting all procedures related to trademarks and patents online excluding all evidence that cannot be presented in electronic format.
Likewise, the Uruguayan government is studying the possibility of joining the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) which would open the doors to Uruguay to sign free trade agreements with the United States, the European Community, amongst others.
Finally, with the entry into force of the accelerated patent procedure (PPH), applicants who meet the requirements therein may use the benefits speed up the granting of their applications.
