NEW PATENT OFFICAL FEES IN ECUADOR
The Ecuadorian Intellectual Property Institute (IEPI), by means of Resolution No. 001-2016 -CD- IEPI, has set new official fees for certain patent application procedures in response to a request made by the European Union within the framework of their trade agreement negotiations.
Official fees were significantly reduced for patent application filing; additional claims after the tenth claim, the request for prior to grant examination and maintenance fees.
However, the resolution failed to set official fees for utility model applications, requests for new patentability exams in response to an official action, or the discount percentage granted to independent inventors and universities. It is therefore considered that these procedures remain regulated under the previous provisions.
