DENIAL OF TRADEMARK REGISTRATION ON THE GROUNDS OF A PROTECTED APPELLATION OF ORIGIN

The Colombian Trademark Office recently issued Resolution No. 87059, reminding that trademark registration must be denied when an appellation of origin is reproduced, imitated or contained in an applied trademark covering the same or different goods, provided that risk of confusion or association may be created or it might constitute misappropriation of its notoriety

ISSUANCE OF OFFICE ACTION OF FEBRUARY 2, 2018, BY THE NATIONAL COPYRIGHT DIRECTION (DNDA) IN REGARDS TO THE AUDIOVISUAL DIRECTORS, COLOMBIAN MANAGEMENT SOCIETY –DASC

On February 2nd 2018, the Colombian NATIONAL COPYRIGHT DIRECTION (DNDA in Spanish) issued an Office Action authorizing the AUDIOVISUAL DIRECTORS, COLOMBIAN MANAGEMENT SOCIETY –DASC, to make the publication of a notice in a newspaper of wide national circulation where they report their intention to obtain the recognition of legal status, as well as authorization to operate as a Collective Management Company

TRADEMARK LICENSES ARE PROTECTED INVESTMENTS

An arbitral award of the tire manufacturer Bridgestone Licensing Services c. Panama was issued by the arbitrators Nicolas Phillips, Horacio Grigera Neon and Cristopher Thomas on January 4th 2018, ruling that trademark licenses are protected investments provided that their commercial exploitation is sought.
