On May 31st 2016, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) issued Resolution No. 166, which establishes the regulation of disclaimers on trademark registrations.

The General Registry of the Cayman Islands has issued Practice Note No. 01/2016 by which annuity payments for patents and trademark renewals are regulated.

GRANTING OF THE FIRST TACTILE TRADEMARK IN COLOMBIA

The Colombian Trademark Office recently granted the first tactile trademark for the recognized “Old Parr” whisky bottle by means of Resolution No. 3718 of 2016, which also settled the formal requirements for obtaining such trademark protection.

FOOD LABELS CONTAINING SUGARS, CALORIES, SODIUM AND/OR SATURATED FAT

Starting from June 26th 2016 there will be a new legal obligation for manufacturers, producers, distributors and importers of packaged foods to include in the label an index related to sugars, calories, sodium and/or saturated fats.
