SIX PROCEDURES ESTABLISHED FOR THE “FAST TRACK” OR PPH OF PATENTS
Currently, the granting or denial of a patent in Brazil can take approximately 8 to 10 years. Due to the above, the Brazilian Government has decided to implement “fast tracks” or PPH for pending patent applications, in order to speed up its process.
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BRAZILIAN PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE AND THE NATIONAL HEALTH SURVEILLANCE AGENCY FOR THE APPROVAL OF PHARMACEUTICAL PATENTS
On April 12th, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office and the National Health Surveillance Agency signed an agreement whereby the roles of each institute where clarified in the granting of patents for pharmaceutical products and processes.

The complainant interest was to revoke a mandate previously given to SAYCO Y ACINPRO, the only copyright collective management society in Colombia.
COLOMBIAN COPYRIGHTS AUTHORITY CLOSED THE PUBLIC CONSULTATION REGARDING THE MANUAL OF GOOD ACCOUNTING PRACTICES OF THE COPYRIGHT COLLECTIVE MANAGEMENT SOCIETIES
Colombian Copyrights Authority (DNDA) carried out a public consultation aimed to the collective management societies regarding the Manual of good practices of the copyrights collective management societies. The public consultation took place from February 23 to March 30th.
CACAO AMAZONAS PERU PROTECTED AS DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN IN THE NAME OF COOPERATIVA CENTRAL DE PRODUCTORES AGRARIOS DE AMAZONAS (CEPROAA)
The Direction of Distinctive Signs of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) granted the certification of designation of origin to CACAO AMAZONAS PERU in the name of Cooperativa Central de Productores Agrarios de Amazonas (CEPROAA), to identify a special dry fermented cacao grain known in the country as “native cacao”.
INDECOPI LAUNCHES SPECIALIZED SEARCH TOOL INCLUDING “PERUVIAN” TERMS FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
With the purpose of providing new and better tools for its users, the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI in Spanish) has launched a new free search tool for the classification of products and services for potential applicants to use, which contains “Peruvian” words and terms.
